Off the Grid Systems

Just what is an Off the Grid PV system?
A basic off-grid system consists of a renewable energy source, which generates DC power, a battery bank that stores the DC power, and a inverter/charger unit. The Charge controls the charging of the storage batteries. The inverter is the intelligence center of a renewable system, seamlessly converting DC power to clean and reliable AC electricity for your daily needs.

At night, the inverter/charger automatically runs your electrical equipment from your battery bank. The generator provides additional back-up battery charging capability for extended periods of cloudy weather. The inverter/charger can automatically start the generator and initiate a recharge cycle when the battery bank is depleted, or if the load is too large for the batteries to supply on their own. You can even have a connection to the grid should you want to use utility power to recharge the battery bank.

Six Steps to Installing Your Off Grid PV System

1. Call Moosehead Solar and discuss what your electrical demands and requirements are. See this page about estimating home energy needs.

2. We will prepare a preliminary estimate based upon information put together during the phone consultation. The estimate can be mailed, e-mailed, or faxed to you within 1-2 weeks (generally sooner).

3. After you review the preliminary estimate, contact Moosehead Solar to schedule an on-site Solar Evaluation. This will ensure that you have an acceptable location for the proposed project and let us establish distances and locations for equipment which enables us to give you a more accurate estimate that includes labor and all additional wiring wiring needed.

4. After the site survey is completed, we will revise the preliminary estimate to an accurate, final estimate including labor, wiring, etc. based upon the information gathered during the site survey. This finalized estimate will be promptly sent back to you for your review.

5. Upon acceptance of the final estimate, contact Moosehead Solar to place a deposit to secure your slot on the installation schedule while your equipment is ordered.

6. Once we receive the equipment, Moosehead Solar will contact you to setup a suitable time to have the system installed.
